Who:  Amara Ross

Where (Borough):  Brooklyn

Graduation Year: 2011

Major: Biology

Tell us 3 things about you: While at Hampton I served as a member of the SGA L.I.F.E.
AIDS Committee and even a small stint as a Trojan ambassador at Hampton. I obtained my Masters of Public Health from VCU. I co-authored Social Vulnerability in Congenital Syphilis Case Mothers: Qualitative Assessment of Cases in Indiana, 2014–2016 in July 2018.

Tell us about your job: I currently work in public health informatics and STD prevention with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, as the system administrator for the surveillance database used by the Bureau of Sexually Transmitted Infections. Public health is an arena that is in sore need of more passionate Black men and women. Our community is disproportionately impacted by so many health disparities, a fact that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted.
